The idea of engaging patients in their own health care is one deeply rooted in the concepts of wellness and prevention. The evolving model by which health care is managed in America places more financial responsibility on both patient and provider alike for positive outcomes, necessitating an increase in participation by all involved. Numerous studies affirm what practitioners have long known to be true, that the more engaged a patient is in their own health care, the better their health is likely to be.
