The food exchange lists are groups of weighed foods that approximately contribute the same macronutrient value. Within each food list, one exchange is approximately equal to another in the three macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats), and they can be exchanged in meal planning without significant differences in dietary intakes of patients. Food lists can be used in individualized dietetic planning or nutrition education.
