The measurement of household food security, important for identifying trends over time, paints an incomplete picture of food availability within a home. Food security, that is, the access by all members at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life, includes, at a minimum, the ready availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods and the assured ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways. Here, Seidel details the background of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
