Food is one of the essentials of life not only for nourishment of the body but mind and soul. Despite the important place that food plays it is not typically thought of in terms of routine health care and is often overlooked by nurses and other health care providers. The importance of food can be so very significant-in fact, a major reason for older adults leaving their homes to move to ALCs. This often involves the need for assistance with many aspects related to food. For example, these can involve cooking an Instrumental Activity of Daily Living (IDAL) or eating an Activity of Daily Living (ADL).
