In Spring of 2016 the American Geriatrics Society along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released the revised Clinician's Guide to Assessing and Counseling Older Drivers (3rd edition). The guide is available on the American Geriatrics Society webpage, Geriatricscareonline.org (http://geriatricscareonline.org/toc/clinicians-guide-to-assessing-and-counseling-older-drivers-3rd-edition/B022). The purpose of this guide is to encourage all health care professionals to assess and counsel older adults about driving safety and to assure that older adults are helped to maintain driving safety for as long as it is appropriate.
