Subject(s): Summary: The Philippine movie industry is in a hiatus when producers of the studio system go on a respite in doing movies after movies. The industry produced only an average of 25-30 movies a year from capitalist producers like Regal Films and Star Cinema. The last five years saw alternative producers who tried to salvage the dwindling industry. These producers are not only 'alternative' in terms of production approaches but also in bringing to the Filipino and international audiences new narratives, new sensibilities and a new batch of craftsmen. Today they are called independent film producers and their products - independent films or indie films.
