Subject(s): Summary: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practices of mothers with six-month to two year old babies on breastfeeding in Tarcan, Baliuag, Bulacan from February to March 2009. One hundred and ninety mothers participated in face-to-face normative interviews aided by a pre-tested interview schedule. Results showed that the mothers were knowledgable on the basic concepts of breastfeeding except on the correct duration of exclusive breastfeeding where only 3.6% had correct answers. They were roughly divided into those with average knowledge (51.0%) and those with high knowledge (48.4%). Majority also had positive attitude towards breastfeeding. Only a small portion (2.1%) practiced exclusive breastfeeding. This finding indicates that future education programs should emphasize the duration and importance of exclusive breastfeeding.
