Subject(s): Summary: This retrospective, repeated measures study compared the baseline serum levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglycerides, and cholesterol with the levels after administration of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to 169 patients of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) obstetrics and gynecology (OB) reproductive endocrinology and reproductive unit. The patients, aged 26 to 72, were all postmenopausal (either surgical or natural), and received 0.625 mg conjugated estrogen daily for 1 to 48 months. patients were stratified according to number of months that they underwent HRT. A one-tailed paried samples t-test (p<.05) was done per stratum for both the entire sample and the high-risk groups. HDL levels increased significantly in the strata receiving HRT for 13 to 18 and 25 to 30 months, but not in other strata. there was no significant decrease in LDl, triglycerides and cholesterol. Results could have implications on administration of HRT to postmenopausal Filipino women.
