Subject(s): Summary: Teaching methods involve understanding of curriculum theory and practice, type of learning outcomes and the psychology of motivation and individual differences which are bases for selecting and organizing learning experiences. Effective teaching involves also knowledge of educational theory and research, a willingness to learn new roles and teaching methods and the ability to reflect on one's own performance (De Young, 2006). In teaching, culture is definitely considered, and how we prepare students to embrace or respect other cultures different from theirs is through the concept of transcultural nursing, which is part of a subject being taught in Nursing. Leininger described transcultural nursing as a humanistic and scientific area of formal study and practice in nursing which is focused upon differences and similarities among cultures with respect to human care, health, and illness based upon the people's cultural values, beliefs, and practices, and to use this knowledge to provide cultural specific or culturally congruent nursing care to people (Leiniger, 2012) In the development of a teaching plan which is a carefully organized written presentation, what the learner needs to learn and how the nurse educator is going to provide the teaching should be taken into consideration. Using active learning techniques like case study enables students to actively manipulate the content they are learning and may include students talking about the material, writing about it, acting it out or reflecting on it. Effective teaching involves also knowledge of educational theory and research, a willingness to learn new roles and teaching methods and the ability to reflect on one's own performance (De Young, 2006).
