Subject(s): Summary: Diabetes is now among the five leading causes of death in most countries. In fact, here in the Philippines, it is on the top ten leading causes of mortality. In addition,diabetes ranked already as the ninth top killer disease at the present. It claims at least 5,000 lives a year and mortality rate has increased by 92 percent over a 10=year period according to the Department of Health. It is also alarming to know that recently according to WHO, the number of cases of diabetes in developing countries including the Philippines, is likely to increase more than two-fold in the enxt 30 years.
