Summary: Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is the most common chronic illness in children and poor glucose control could increase the risk of Diabetes complications such as cardiovascular diseases. Dietary and Insulin Management is required as treatment to achieve normal Postprandial glucose (glucose level after a meal) among other glycemic variables. Studies have shown that T1D adolescents compromise their food intake in hopes of achieving normal glucose by decreasing Carbohydrates while increasing Protein and Fat intake. However, emerging studies have been analyzing the effects of Protein and Fat on Postprandial glucose. Different Insulin Regimens prescribed by Physicians have different onset, peak of action, and duration of action. The researchers propose that diet plans should coincide with the prescribed Insulin Regimen.
