When practitioners uphold a set of values established to ensure professionalism with clients, colleagues, and the public, they are held accountable to the ethical standards of their profession's culture. A code of ethics is a formal document that describes specific rules of ethical conduct for all individuals of that profession. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) and its credentialing agency, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), developed its professional Code of Ethics (Code) to guide nutrition and dietetics practitioners in their daily practice, particularly when they are faced with an ethical dilemma, which may be defined as a decision-making predicament involving multiple responses or actions that may contradict personal or professional values.
