Based on a recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report,a published in June 2015, there will likely be an increase in the number of Medicare-enrolled providers who are sanctioned for failing to comply with the enrollment rules. One of the most common sanctions under the Medicare enrollment rules is a billing privilege revocation, which has to be followed by a one- to three-year bar to reenrollment. Furthermore, a Medicare billing privilege revocation requires termination from participation in Medicaid and contracting with other federal payers.
