Here, Hayman comments on the study by Inge et al that assesses the baseline prevalence and predictors of CVD risks among severely obese adolescents undergoing weight-loss surgery. She says results underscore the importance of identifying and managing risk factors and adverse health behaviors in overweight and obese children and adolescents. There is a need to advocate for multilevel preventive interventions designed to prevent the emergence of severe obesity and accelerated risk for CVD.
