Summary: Between 2010 and 2013, anesthesia-related complications declined by more than 50%, according to researchers who evaluated data from a registry of more than 3.2 million anesthesia cases. During the same period, overall mortality held steady at .03%, or 3 deaths per 10,000 procedures involving anesthesia. The most common minor complication was postoperative nausea and vomiting (35.5%). The most common major complication was medication error (11.7%).
