Tschannen et al talk about communication among the health care team which is one of the most critical aspects in health care delivery because of its impact on patient safety. The Joint Commission has cited miscommunication as one of the primary and consistent root causes for sentinel events. Crew resource management, a training method that focuses on the management of human error and risk reduction in the environment, has been instrumental in supporting aviation's excellent safety record and has unique characteristics that have shown promise in reducing communication failure in health care.
