Summary: A question and answer advisory regarding patient confidentiality about the possible pregnancy of a 16-year-old female is presented. Among other things, nurse who have no proof that that their patient is pregnant, documenting that she is (or even might be) pregnant based on a friend's comment would be misleading and possibly a HIPAA violation. Keep in mind that the patient may think she's pregnant but not be, or she may have given her friend false information.
