520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In 2005, more than 75,000 children were hospitalized for severe sepsis at a cost of $4.8 billion, and the incidence continues to increase. The monetary expense is staggering, but the morbidity and mortality associated with severe sepsis in children is even more alarming. Here, Duffy and Moloney-Harmon highlight the most current sepsis definitions and incorporate pediatric considerations as outlined in the most recent guidelines from the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, including evidence-based nursing considerations. The pediatric guidelines are targeted toward term newborns and children.
