520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Based on observational research data, preoperative beta-blocker therapy has become a national quality standard for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. A study was conducted to determine whether beta-blocker use within 24 hours of CABG surgery reduces perioperative mortality in a contemporary sample of patients. A retrospective analysis was conducted based on the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Adult Cardiac database for 1,107 hospitals performing cardiac surgery in the US between Jan 1, 2008 and Dec 31, 2012. A total of 506,110 adults undergoing nonemergent CABG surgery were included.
