There are a number of nurses retiring annually, and many of them are nurse leaders. The need for competent nurse leaders will only continue to increase as more current leaders retirement. Recruiting and retaining quality nurse leaders can prove to be difficult. In an effefort to improve new nurse leaders' engagement, satisfaction, and retention, a 430-bed free-standing pediatric medical center in Texas developed a workshop based on a needs assessment of nurse managers and a literature review on the transition from clinical nurse to nurse leader.
