In 2017, portions of the United States were hit by some of the worst natural disasters in many years, or in some cases, in our country's history. Months after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, much of the island was still without electricity. Hurricane Harvey caused damage and disrupted countless lives in Texas. Wildfires have devastated the Western United States; in December, active fires had consumed a combined area larger than New York City.
