Providing culturally proficient care for transgender patient / Keith A. Wichinski - February 2015. - Nursing 2015 45 : 2, page 58-63 .

Wichinski talks about the transgender community which is difficult to define and understand. Individuals who belong to this community have a clear desire to be identified with a gender that they were not born as. Transgender men feel innately that they're truly female and transgender women believe they're genuinely male. Transgender individuals experience a high prevalence of HIV, sexually transmitted infections, victimization, violence, mental health issues, and suicide.
