The Philippine nursing information system (PNIS) project / Josefina Tuazon - October 2003 - Philippine Journal of Nursing Education 13 : 1, pages 33-34 .

Based on the Nursing Sector Strategic Plan for 2000-2003, there was a felt need for timely access to accurate, updated and complete data on nursing human resource development and distribution. With rapid migration of trained nurses abroad and proliferation of nursing schools ang programs, the nursing sector needs these data for palicy formulation and advocacy to safeguard the profession's interest and continue to provide optimum nursing services in the country. To date, there is neither such a database nor a system for regular collection and reporting of vital nursing data. Thus, the PNIS project was established, housed and managed by the University of the Philippines Manila College of Nursing and NIH-Institute of Health Policy and Development studies.
